PROPOSALS ARE OPEN FOR ILYOUTH2
SRING 2026 - FALL 2027 PROGRAMMING!

Some basic info:

  • TYPES OF PROGRAMMING: We are open to all kinds of programming proposals! Some ways this could look include: a one-off workshop for kids and their parents, a recurring class for upper elementary aged artists, an informal recurring creative hangout for a specific community, a one-time all ages event, an ongoing event series for tweens—or something else you’ve dreamed up!
    *Please note that the only thing this proposal form does not include is our camps (full day programming when schools are out, either for singular days or for breaks). When open, you can find those proposals here.

  • DATES: We are currently booking programming for October 2026—May 2027. Dates and times are flexible, but must fit around our recurring and already scheduled programming.

  • LOCATION: We have officially moved into our new studio at ILY2, 925 NW Flanders! (but we are also open to offsite proposals!)

  • PROPOSALS: You are welcome to submit multiple proposals for multiple ideas, but please use separate form.

  • SUPPORT: At least one ILYouth2 or ILY2 team member is always on site, and daelyn is happy to work as an assistant, studio manager, and collaborator when it makes sense. We also often have high school and college aged interns supporting. We will work with you to ensure you have all required materials and supplies (and in most cases can acquire them for you).

  • PAY: Pay is based on multiple factors, including participant capacity, instructor experience level, and materials costs—but typically sits between $20-40/hr for workshops and classes, and varies for other types of programming (like events). For workshops and classes, we offer pay increase incentives such as if enrollment hits capacity or if there are a certain number of instructor referrals.

  • AGES: We define “youth” loosely, but our programming is always youth-centered. Your program could be for a very specific age set (eg: “7-11”, or “15-19”, or “10-13 year olds and their parents/caregivers”, etc) or it could be broader (eg: “middle school aged”, or “all ages”, or “families”, etc).

  • ENROLLMENT: We are only able to run programming that hits a minimum enrollment requirement. For workshops and classes this is typically 8-12 participants, but this can shift based on cost to run and cost to participate. The final number will be determined before your proposal is accepted. ILYouth2 sets participant enrollment cost, but it is always sliding scale, and we always hold at least one full scholarship space.

  • PREVIOUS INSTRUCTORS: If you have already led programming at ILYouth2, feel free to email daelyn directly with your idea. (or: if you’d prefer to just use this proposal form, that’s great!)

  • QUESTIONS & ACCESSIBILITY: If you’re unsure about your idea, would like feedback before submitting, or if our proposal form doesn’t feel like an accessible format for you, feel free to email ILYouth2 director daelyn at daelyn@ily2online.com to check-in digitally or to schedule an in-person chat.

  • DEADLINE: Proposals are rolling, we will reply to you as soon as we are able! We generally do not book programming if the proposal is submitted less than a month before the proposed date.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

We know putting together a proposal is a lot of labor in of itself, so here are some things we look for:

  • Specificity! We love proposals where the artist instructor/facilitator has a really clear idea. “A recurring still life drawing night where each month there is a new, themed composition comprised of unique contemporary objects, bringing an unconventional but thoughtful lens to this long-honored practice” has more momentum and information for us to work with than, “a recurring still life drawing night”. Specificity helps us gauge the following things we look for:

  • Evidence that you know how you will fill the time you’re proposing. If you’re proposing a one time, 3 hour workshop, what do those 3 hours look like? If you’re proposing a class that meets every Thursday evening for two months, what happens in each session? Do you have a plan for if participants move more quickly than you anticipate?

  • Experience, or, a demonstrated understanding of what support you’d need.

  • Clear idea of materials needed, and their cost.

  • That it is a good fit for ILYouth2 and our community. This one is a little harder to define, and proposals do not necessarily need to check all of these boxes, but some things we prioritize and that our community looks for includes:

    • Centers process over product! (ie: there is openness for participants to experiment and learn, and not pressure that outcomes look a particular way).

    • Unique! (ie: they wouldn’t find this somewhere else in Portland ; it isn’t a prefabricated project ; it’s informed by your own practice or lens as a creative being in the world).

    • Thoughtful! (ie: participants are encouraged to be present and intentional about what they’re creating, the mediums they’re using, and why).
