In this one-day camp, we’ll be looking at the collages, paintings, and sculptures of Wangechi Mutu. We’ll examine the themes of Mutu’s work, and talk about using your Self as a source of content and inspiration for artwork. We’ll think about how we see ourselves; how others see us; what we’d like to emphasize, hide, transform, or distort ; and what it means to depict parts of ourselves visually. Like Mutu, we’ll translate our ideas into various mediums, both 2D and 3D!
concepts : self image, power
skills : collage, painting, photography, sculpture, taking an artwork from 2D to 3D
This camp is led by ILYouth2 director daelyn lambi, who has been teaching for over 15 years. Identity and self image is one of their favorite things to dive into through art.
